Mask use: wearing face mask is not mandatory but people are encouraged to wear it when in public places according to Regulations No. 8 of 2022 – The Public Health Ordinance.

Protocols regulating meetings: meetings should not exceed a maximum of ten people in private spaces and meetings of groups larger than five (5) persons are not allowed in public places and public spaces.

Hand washing: Wash hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Airway hygiene: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean.

Physical distance: Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with sick people and stay home and isolate yourself from other family members if you feel sick.

All passengers travelling to Guyana are required to:

a) show evidence of at least a single dose of the following COVID-19 vaccines.

  • AstraZeneca ChAdOx1 vaccine
  • Sputnik V - Cam Covid Vac (1&2)
  • Sinopharm - Vou Cell BIBP
  • Sinovac - Corona Vac
  • Prizer-BioNTech Covid-19 BNT 162b2
  • Moderna - mRNA-1273 vaccine
  • Johnson and Johnson - Janssen Ad26CoV2.S vaccine
  • Abdala - CIGB-66
  • Soberana 02 - Finlay-FR-2

The proof of vaccination may be in digital format or in any other firm, provided that the form is identifiable and includes the official stamp of the applicable country. 


*Exception: Guyana and Brazil land border

It is mandatory to present the vaccination card with both doses against Covid-19, in addition to a negative PCR test for the disease, valid for 72 hours. Each vehicle can carry a maximum of four people. 

Residents of the twin cities, who do not have the PCR, but are fully vaccinated, can cross the border only on Fridays, at 9am, 2pm, and 6pm. They must also present personal documentation and proof of address.

All persons travelling to Guyana, 12 years and over must be fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, before arrival to Guyana.

Passengers are required to present their vaccination card bearing their names, name of vaccine, date vaccine was given and batch number from an accredited health facility.

  • A person obtains the status of fully vaccinated two weeks after the last vaccination is received:
  • An approved single- dose vaccine
  • The second dose of an approved two dose vaccine
  • Any mix-and-match combination of approved vaccines administered at seventeen days apart.

Fully vaccinated also includes persons who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus fourteen days to three months ago. In this instance, the following are required:

  • A “Certificate of Clearance” from a certified medical practitioner stating the relevant results of their positive test and being free from complaints

Vaccine Exemption

Vaccination exemptions shall be applicable for the following reasons:

  • Passengers who are advised against being vaccinated for medical reasons must present a “Letter of Exemption” from a licensed medical practitioner.
  • Partially vaccinated means those who have received the first dose of an approved vaccine.

Covid-19 home testing is not accepted for international travel requirements, for both arriving and departing travelers.

The Cheddi Jagan International (GEO) and Eugene Correia International (OGL) airports continue to operate international commercial flights.

There are no restrictions on those seeking to leave the country; however, the number of flights available are limited.

Domestic air is limited to government and essential activities.


Land:

Travelers from countries with a high number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be subject to more screenings or may be denied to entry in the country upon arrival.

The Lethem Crossing is open from Monday to Friday. The Task Force is assisting foreign nationals travelling to and from Region 9 and screening them. The Moleson Creek Crossing is open. Check-in time 06:30hrs to 08:00hrs, and the scheduled departure is 09:00hrs, from the Moleson Creek Terminal.

Domestic land travel is limited to government and essential activities, and no vehicle can exceed 50% of its capacity.

*Exception: Guyana and Brazil border

It works as follows: from Monday to Wednesday, it will be open to society, Thursday will be the turn of cargo trucks, and Friday for residents of Lethem and Bonfim.

Trucks and other cargo vehicles can only cross the border on Thursdays. 


Maritime:

Domestic travel by land, sea, and air is limited to government purposes, and travel is to obtain or provide basic goods and services.

Travelers from countries with a high number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be subject to more screenings or may be denied to entry in the country upon arrival.

To attain a certificate of registration, foreigners must present themselves to the registration officers with a passport containing a photograph, provide information about accompanied family members and residency, and if required by a registration officer, provide a recent photograph along with fingerprints for the purpose of identification.

 

Official sources of information

The main legislation regulating immigration in Guyana is the Immigration Act, Chapter 14:02 (1947, last amended in 2007).

Guyana’s national law addressing extradition is the Expulsion of Undesirables, Chapter 14:05.

c) Requirements

General documentation that might be requested:

  • Letter requesting the permanent residence
  • Copy of the applicant passport bio-data page (preferably colored copy)
  • Copy of applicant birth certificate
  • Copy of marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Police Clearance
  • Medical Report for applicant
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay or proof of other support while in Guyana; and
  • Letter of approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs for the applicant of residing in Guyana.

Each application takes one (1) month to process.

Upon receipt of approval, payments of GYD$28,700 or USD $140 must be made.

All the requests should be submitted to the Immigration Support Services.

 

d) Documentary formalities

Certified English translations of all documents that are in foreign languages are required.

Temporary residence in the receiving country

c) Requirements

General documentation that might be requested:

  • Letter requesting the permanent residence
  • Copy of the applicant passport bio-data page (preferably colored copy)
  • Copy of applicant birth certificate
  • Copy of marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Police Clearance
  • Medical Report for applicant
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay or proof of other support while in Guyana; and
  • Letter of approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs for the applicant of residing in Guyana.

The most common residence permit is valid for one year, but permits may be obtained that are valid for up to three years. Residence permits are renewable.

Each application takes one (1) month to process.

Upon receipt of approval, payments of GYD$28,700 or USD $140 must be made.

All the requests should be submitted to the Immigration Support Services.

Requisitos de Ingreso/Egreso para Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes (NNAs)

NNAs acompañados con ambos representantes legales

In the case of children and adolescents of Guyanese or foreign nationality with legal residency or in process of residency, do not need specific requirements for travelling abroad with their legal representatives.

NNAs acompañados con un representante legal

In the case of children and adolescents of Surinamese or foreign nationality with legal residency or in process of residency, shall require the express authorization of their legal representatives to travel with one parent or guardian, by presenting: a signed statement of consent from the parents in which it is clearly stated that the adult may take the child with him on a trip; a copy of a valid passport of the parent(s) or guardian and a copy of family book or family extract or guardianship agreement.

NNAs no acompañados

This refers to those children and adolescents who are not traveling in the company of their legal representatives.

In the case of children and adolescents of Surinamese or foreign nationality with legal residency or in process of residency, shall require the express authorization of their legal representatives, by presenting a written consent form, signed by the parent(s) or guardian and a copy of the passport or national identity card of the parent(s) or legal representative (must be attached).
