Foreigners with or without a residence application can register with the State Health Services Administration (ASSE in Spanish).
Foreigners whose residence is being processed and who do not have formal coverage can register free of charge.
The validity of their registration shall be subject to the validity of the residence application date.
A photocopy of their identity document, proof of entry and residence application must be submitted.
They are entitled to free comprehensive health care in any of the ASSE health care services. Its scope is universal.
They do not pay for prescriptions or bills for any health-related expense.
Those without a residence application (spouse, legal cohabitant and children without residence applications) may register by paying an ASSE fee.

Registration can be made at any service centre: registrations with fees only at the head office: calle Cerro Largo 1816 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm (Montevideo). The others at any registration office in the country.
