Travel documents

Travel documents required for admission by air:

For travelers, except for children under 2 years of age and children under 12 years of age, traveling with an accompanying person, provided that all accompanying persons have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test:

1. present to the airline responsible for the flight, prior to boarding a document proving that a laboratory test of the RT-PCR type has been performed, with a negative or non-reactive result, performed within the 72 hours prior to the moment of boarding, observing the following criteria:

a) the document must be presented in the Portuguese, Spanish, or English language.

b) the test must be performed in a laboratory recognized by the health authority of the country of departure.

c) in the hypothesis of flights with connections or stopovers where the traveler remains in a restricted area of the airport, the seventy-two-hour period will be considered in relation to boarding on the first leg of the trip.

d) travelers who migrate more than 72 hours since the RT-PCR test was performed must present a document proving that a new test has been performed with a negative or non-reactive result at the check-in for boarding.

Or present a negative COVID-19 antigen test performed no more than 24 hours before departure from the first point of embarkation, which must be presented in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.

2. fill in the Electronic Traveller's Health Declaration 72 hours before the flight departure, which shall be submitted in a paper or digital format upon check-in.

The following are exempted from having an RT-PCR-type laboratory test: children under 12 years of age travelling with a companion, if every companion submits a negative or non-reactive result of the RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2, and children under 2 years of age.

3. submit travel documents.

4. submit an entry visa, if required for the nationality in question; and  

5.  submit an International Immunization Certificate, if required for the nationality in question.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil is the body in charge of granting visas, which may be applied for through embassies, consulates general, consulates and vice-consulates of Brazil abroad, or electronically.


Travel documents required for admission by sea:

The transportation of national or foreign travelers by water, exclusively in Brazilian jurisdictional waters, by cruise ships is allowed.

It is also allowed the disembarkation, authorized by the Federal Police, of maritime crew for medical assistance or for air connection to return to the country of origin related to operational issues or to the end of the work contract.

The disembarkation of this group is conditioned to the presentation of a term of responsibility for the expenses resulting from the transshipment signed by the maritime agent, a document proving that the RT-PCR laboratory test was performed, with negative or non-detectable results, within the 72 hours prior to embarkation, prior consent from local health authorities, and presentation of the corresponding airline tickets.

For cruise ship admission, the following documents are required:

  1. Complete Covid-19 vaccination cycle. For proof purposes, it is essential to present the National Vaccination Certificate against Covid-19.
  2. Obligation to present a negative RT-PCR type test done up to 72 hours before boarding or an antigen test done up to 24 hours before boarding.
  3. Completion of a form containing information about the traveler's health conditions. This form must be submitted by all passengers, including minors and crew members.

Travel documents required for entry for persons who have had Covid-19 within the past 90 days, are asymptomatic, and persist with a positive RT-PCR or antigen test:

Persons who persist with a positive reagent RT-PCR test for extended periods are permitted entry into Brazil, provided that the following documents are presented at the time of disembarkation:

  • two detectable RT-PCR results, at least 14 days apart, with the last one performed within 72 hours prior to the moment of embarkation and.
  • antigen test with a negative or non-reactive result dated after the last detectable RT-PCR result.
  • medical certificate stating that the person is asymptomatic and fit to travel, including the date of travel. The certificate must be issued in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, and contain the identification and signature of the physician in charge.
