Surveillance at points of entry
The risk of importing a variant depends on the epidemiological situation of the country of origin and the country of destination, the highest risk scenario is that the transmission is more intense in the country of origin than in the country of destination, based on this criterion the following options are suggested:
The progressive opening of the land borders between Ecuador and Colombia is recommended, taking into account the epidemiological situation of the two countries whose border crossing is open with the following hours:
In the established CEBABs where there is an office of the MSP at the point of entry, the hours will be:
MSP: Monday to Sunday, from 08:00 to 17:00.
Government of the border province: Monday to Sunday, 5:01 p.m. to 7:59 a.m. the next day.
At the other border crossings where there is no MSP office at the point of entry, they must present the health requirements described to the personnel designated by the Governors of the border provinces (immigration, national police or armed forces) from Monday to Sunday during business hours. 24 hours, prior training by the Ministry of Public Health.
Additionally, selective closure of both air and sea borders for citizens of the countries is suggested, with the following criteria:
- Countries that identify variants of concern VOC (Delta), Omicron, or others,
- That these countries have active transmission at the community level,
- That these countries have low vaccination rates.
Seaway:
Since 2021, Ecuador has enabled the arrival of cruise ships with vaccinated passengers in its ports. The guidelines are available in the Guidelines for the development of activities related to the arrival, stay and departure of visitor and crew vessels .
